Building renovation preparations begin

Renovation requires some preparation and adjustment on our part. We ask you to be flexible. In most cases we can plan for what is coming. Occasionally that may not be the case. We ask for your patience, prayers, and flexibility.

The first priority is the completion of the renovation of the weekday preschool area. Renovation in this area is scheduled to take place between June 2 and September 2. This is the most time sensitive and intense segment of the renovation. The amount of construction required plus the licensing procedures make this a very tight time schedule.

What are some of the adjustments that are necessary?

      1.  Areas where renovation is going to take place must be completely cleared out by June 2. This means that every item presently located in that area must be thrown away or moved to another place designated for storage or for use. The two areas involved in the first segment of this phase are the preschool area downstairs on the east side of the hallway and upstairs where the music suite will be located. Downstairs is being coordinated by Paula Parker and Dina Marshall. They need help in moving heavier items and have a trailer where most of their stuff is going that is not being used elsewhere in the building. Laura Strange and Fred Rogers are coordinating the plans for upstairs. We have used this area for storage for a number of years. Some of what is stored here needs to be thrown away, some given away, and some kept. We will be looking for volunteers to help. If you have something that belongs to you in this area, please retrieve it as soon as possible. If you can help, please call the church office at 253-3411.

     2.  Our preschoolers, both weekday and on Sunday, will need to move by Sunday, June 1. We will be asking adults on the first floor to shift their space to accomodate our preschoolers. Preschoolers will move to the Parlor and Room 130. Senior adults will have their department gathering in the Alcove of the Fellowship Hall. The location of their classes stays the same. The class taught by the Pastor will move to Room 200 upstairs. These two moves will be made on Sunday, May 18. We are finalizing the moves for other groups and will be communicating these plans directly with the groups involved. The date when shifting needs to occur for other groups, if affected, is Sunday, June 1.

     3. We ask that you not use that parking lot on the south side of the building near the kitchen. Shift over to our other parking lots and the available streets. The parking lot will be closed during the days when construction is being done. It will be open to drive through on the weekends and evenings. Please do not park in someone's driveway.

     4.  Finally, we have asked several community groups to find other facilities to use this next year. Every area of our church on the first floor and major areas on the second floor will be affected by construction. After construction is completed we will again be open to community groups using our facilities as much as is possible. Groups that have been asked to find other facilities include Bible Study Fellowship, the Plant Crewe Team, and Dream-a-Dress. We are continuing to host a number of groups whose space needs are not impacted by construction.
