| The end result of our efforts is direct ministry involvement. You have made commitments. You have done what we have asked. How does the process work now? What are the challenges ahead? What is the next step? How do we make sure you have every opportunity to participate in ministry?
Names of those who committed to serve in different ministries will be shared with the person responsible. Church and community ministry leaders should contact you personally. If they have not, contact them. Never wait to be asked. Step forward and let someone know of your passion to be involved. You are free to take initiative in any ministry and contact the staff member or community organization. They are looking for volunteers. They welcome your contacts and questions. The process for each category for ministry is different.
If you have volunteered to serve in a church ministry, the staff member responsible for that area of ministry is the key contact person for you to get involved. Sometimes a key church leader is already giving leadership to that ministry and that person will be the person to contact you. We need your involvement in ministries in our church. Our children and youth need caring adults. Ministry is not done in isolation. We serve best when we serve as part of a team.
If you have chosen to be involved in a community ministry, someone from that organization should contact you. They provide training opportunities that are often requirements to be involved. For example, both Guardian Ad Litem and Hospice have training requirements of at least 20 hours. Only after participation in training are you invited to participate in their programs in an active way.
The third category of ministries is ministry to the "beyond"-- state, national, and international ministries. These require travel to be directly involved. We give money to many of these ministries through a percentage of offerings that go to support them. Disaster relief and ministries supported by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship are included in this category. Involvement in these ministries includes prayer, financial support, and participation in mission projects. These projects are planned and supported by the Missions Committee.
We have wonderful opportunities before us. Loving God and serving others for Jesus go together. Let's get going and make a difference for the Kingdom in 2008.
