Seafarers' Ministry a.k.a. Tampa Port Ministries, Inc.
The Tampa Seafarers' Center, a non-profit, multi-denominational Christian organization, seeks to provide an environment for meeting the physical, social, and spiritual needs of seafarers and others who use the facilities of the Port of Tampa. More than 3,000 men and women from all over the world come to the Port of Tampa each week on board cargo and cruise ships. The mission of the Seafarers' Center is to provide these people with a "homelike surrounding" where the love of Christ is shared. Some of the services provided are: a phone room; computers with internet service; a clothes closet; recreational room; lounge area with TV, magazines and books; transportation; and a small store to provide for some personal needs. Chaplains are available to the seafarers and all Port personnel. Worship services are held on board the ships as well as in the Center's chapel. Volunteers Teams can be organized to do special projects as deemed necessary by the Ministry. Technical support for copiers and computers is needed. Donations Items always needed are: used cell phones (for recycling); gently used books and magazines; cookbooks; Bibles, especially in other languages (than English) Monetary donations are accepted.
